As per a Cricbuzz report, a top ICC (International Council of Cricket) official has quit from his position after the 2024 T20 World Cup. It is learned that the individual was closely involved with the organizing of the recently concluded World Cup, which attracted concerns about the pitches and scheduling.
The resignation comes just before ICC’s annual conference, likely scheduled from July 19 to 22. Although the exact reason behind the resignation is not known, the criticism of the New York pitches and the scheduling of the event is expected to cause.
The drop-in pitches used in the Nassau County Cricket Stadium, New York attracted questions on the nature of the pitch. Many cricketers raised concerns about playing there, with the burden of eight matches in ten days adding to the woes. Many members of the ICC were supposed to raise the issue in the Colombo conclave.

The highest score piled up at the venue was 137 by Canada. Chasing low scores seemed difficult for full-member nations. Finalists, South Africa and India were the two nations that often struggled to chase down scores below 140 in New York. Moreover, the highly-anticipated India versus Pakistan clash was a low-scoring encounter with India defending 119 runs.
Apology Statement
The intensity of scrutiny was such that the governing body had to put out an apology statement on social media for the misbehavior of the strips.
“T20 Inc and the ICC recognize that the pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we wanted. The world-class grounds team have been working hard since the conclusion of yesterday’s game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches,” the statement issued by ICC read.
Since Nassau County in New York was a makeshift project, it was demolished right after the group stage of the T20 World Cup. India played the last game against co-hosts the United States of America, winning the game convincingly, courtesy of a brilliant half-century from Suryakumar Yadav.
