Canada’s Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson advance to the quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics at the Eiffel Tower Stadium. They secured an impressive 21-19 and 21-18 win over the United States to eliminate them in the round of 16.
They finished third in Pool D after one win and two losses in the round robin. In the Round of 16 of Paris 2024 Olympics, there were concerns about how they would fare against Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth of the United States, who rank second globally. But the team has proven themselves superior by pulling off a convincing win over them to reach the quarterfinals.

Both teams made full use of the technical time as Canada worked their way in the first set from 15-14 to win the set with 21-19. Their strategy building during the break was spot on as they played with more determination and desire since then. Although Canada made a bright start in the second set to take a 9-4 lead courtesy of some excellent blocks and precise curled knuckle shots from Wilkerson.
With the match shifting in Canada’s favour, the Americans called a technical timeout. This break proved to be a game changer as they surged back into the game to an 18-18 score after putting in some brilliant blocks and smashes from Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth to bring them back into the game. However, the deadly duo of Humana-Paredes quashed a late surge from the Americans to win the second set 21-18 to move into the next round.

During the match, Humana-Paredes scored 19 points, of which 15 points came from attacks and the remaining four points came from aces. A thorn for the team, Wilkerson scored 17 points, with 11 points from attacks, five from impressive blocks, and one from an ace.
Will They Create History in Paris 2024?
On Wednesday, they will be facing Spain’s Tania Moreno and Daniela Alvarez in the quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
