Everyone thought the Canadian women’s team would have a tough time on their debut at Paris 2024 in a game which was introduced three years ago and is relatively unknown. However, they pulled off an impressive performance. Canada’s Women’s team finished fourth at 3×3 Basketball after losing to the USA in the bronze medal match.
The Canadians looked really strong heading into 3 x 3 basketball semifinals of Paris 2024. However they suffered the first heartbreak of the day, bowing out to Germany by a single point with the score reading Canada 15 – 16 Germany.
With the Paris 2024 Bronze medal still up for grab, Canada started strong against the USA. Despite giving a tough fight, in the end it was USA that won the match 13-16 and also the Bronze.
Big Choke By Team Canada
Even though winning and losing are part and parcel of the game, the way Canada choked that game from a winning position will haunt fans for years to come.
A 12-9 scoreline with 3.05 remaining on the clock made it seem like a straightforward task for Canada to slow down the pace, but USA pulled off an impressive comeback. In the final three minutes, USA scored 7 points with only one point conceded to win bronze.
Kacie Bosch who scored 3 points against USA spoke after the match to Olympics Canada and said, “So bittersweet because we were expecting a medal.”
“(My teammates) started this in 2019 without any funding, just completely on themselves, and brought us to an Olympic Games. To place fourth in our first ever appearance is something to be proud o,” Bosch added.
“Are we satisfied?” Bosch asked. “No. I don’t know anybody in the world of sports who would be satisfied with a fourth place finish. We’re going to grow from it, we’re going to learn from it.”
Disappointing Paris 2024 Campaign in The End
A fourth-position finish while participating for the first time in an event at Paris 2024 sounds like a good accomplishment, but considering you are ranked number one in the world ranking and have won two recent FIBA series, a fourth-place finish is a far cry from the status of a worthy accomplishment.
The Basketball quartet of Katherine Plouffe, Michelle Plouffe, Paige Crozon, and Kacie Bosch looked good but fumbled when it mattered most. The semi-final against Germany was a good example of this when the score was tied but Canada’s sloppiness in the last minute gave Sonja Greinacher a chance and she pounced to give Germany the win.`

As a world-ranked team number one, the Canadians arrived at Paris 2024 with a tag of being the best team in the world, but they ended up finishing in fourth place, which is a debatable finish. In terms of wins, they did well against the likes of Australia, China, and France, but they failed to defeat strong names like the US, Spain, and Germany.
