Bianca Andresscu, a Canadian tennis legend whose absence was sorely felt due to injuries, penned a heartfelt letter in the Players Tribune, expressing her unwavering love for the sport in  “I Found My Joy in Tennis Again and Wrote This Article About It :)”.

Andreescu candidly discussed the mental and physical toll of injuries, particularly after achieving a career-defining victory in 2019. From struggling to make an effort to the training she has got things in control thanks to her meditation retreats as she mentions. From many athletes who can relate, she further continued about the comeback she has made so far in the hope of inspiring some or bringing her fans up to speed about her appearances.

Andreescu’s comeback bid in tennis

Despite a 10-month hiatus from competition, she returned to Roland-Garros in May of this year, where the third round was the most she reached. But climbed to 169th rank from 228 in the WTA. Reclaiming her former glory as a world No. 4 in 2019, taking one step at a time to reach there.

Climbing her way up she made a spectacular win at the Paris 2024 Olympics, but fell short to the silver medallist Donna Vekic in the Round of 32. However, these challenges have only fueled her determination to succeed.

Entering the US Open this Wednesday , she is tuned to the American court since this would be her  return to the site of her greatest triumph. And is persistent to make her mark again despite the odds against her. As she wrote in the article:

“There was a time when I lost my joy in tennis. But I found it again,” “And I learned that I will always love tennis deep in my heart, no matter what. It has given me so much.

“So much that whenever I leave the tunnel and step out onto the court, I always feel a bit of that magic from before. I still think that anything is possible.”

Entering the court she would be up against a formidable first-round opponent  Jasmine Paolini. Often encountered in the third round, the Canadian will meet the world No. 5 Paolini, only this time in the first round. This moment would be a revenge awaited to be conquered so far, as Andreescu last to fall out of the major was a result of loss to Paolini.

Keeping her sight to retain the title, she would also be up against either former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova or Mayar Sherif in the second round, with No. 30 seed Yulia Putintseva potentially looming in round three.  A crucial triumph over her would eventually be rewarded by an all-Canadian clash with Leylah Annie Fernandez.

It’s a tough group to be up against but Andreescu is not merely prepared; she is thriving and determined to reclaim her title. A comeback worth relishing in time
