Ryan Wiens and Nathan Zsombor-Murray have already made history by winning bronze earlier at Paris 2024, and now that they have advanced to the men’s 10m platform semifinals, they will be searching for another podium finish to add to their medal collection.
Wiens, who hails from Pike Lake, Sask., had the most impressive record between the pair. He finished third in the preliminaries with a high score of 482.25 points. This tally has seen him enter the conversation about a potential gold medal for Canada at Paris 2024.

Zsombor-Murray also qualified for the semifinals with 407.20 points, the 10th highest score of the day. Cao Yuan from China and Rikuto Tamai from Japan finished in the top two with 500.15 and 497.15 points. The top 18 from the preliminary round advanced to the semifinals at Paris 2024.
These two Canadian divers fresh from winning the bronze at Paris 2024 earlier in the men’s synchronised 10m platform diving remain the Country’s hope for another podium finish. This is after giving Canada their first ever medal since 2008 in this event.
Zsombor-Murray also talked about the pressure that comes with an earlier medal to Olympic Canada:
“After synchro, we had two days to kinda take it all. After that I’ve tried to forget about the synchro medal. ”
Wiens also concurred with that approach:
“Mentally , I just get rid of all the bronze medal stuff that i had in my room. You know, packed it away to bring home, and pretty much reset after two days after that, came in like it’s a new competition. A whole new event, ” he said.

In addition, Wiens and Zsombor-Murray also made history as the first Canadian divers to win a medal for the nation after Alexandre Despatie. During the Beijing 2008 Olympics, the former won silver in the 3m springboard event. This is quite an impressive achievement for the country’s two most talented divers. They will be able to write their history by finishing on the podium again.
“It’s the Olympic Games, anything can happen, ”Zsombor-Murray said. “ Once one dive is done, it’s out of my mind. It’s come and gone and then it’s completely focused on the next dive. ”

Their semi finals are scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. local time. Those finishing within the top 12 will be guaranteed a place in the final, scheduled for later that same day. If Wiens and Zsombor-Murray advance to the final, they will have a chance to make history and win another medal for the country.
