At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Canadian swimmers are just keeping up with all expectations very well, with Masse, Liendo, and the women’s relay team advancing to the semi-finals now. With just seven days remaining, the Canadian swimmers still have a chance of breaking their 6 medal streak since Rio 2016.

In swimming, Canadians have won 55 medals so far, with the best ten coming from Los Angeles in 1984, but it seems unlikely that this record will be broken in the near future. When it comes to a sneak peek at the Canadian best swimmers, there are certainly a lot of options to choose from but Paris 2024 has been filled with so many unexpected turns of events and let’s take a look at recap.

New record from Masse on cards at Paris 2024

Four-time Olympic medalist, Kylie Masse who was a podium finisher in her debut Games at Rio 2016, is back in hunt to turn her silver medal from Tokyo into gold. The 28-year-old Masse is a name who aspiring generations look up to. Her second-fastest time in the heats of the 200-meter backstroke at La Defense Arena in Nanterre, France, advances her into the semifinals.

Masse said of her heat race, as said at the CBC Canada:

“I’m pleased,””A 200 is never easy in the morning. I think the pain is always there, but I wanted to stay as controlled as possible. It’s a tight group in this field so I just wanted to feel my stroke a little.

Masse is all-in on becoming the sixth Canadian woman to medal in this event at the Olympics. This is her third Olympics, after a glorious silver win at the Tokyo Olympics and a debut bronze in Rio 2016. She enters the pool with more experience than all which gives her big edge.

Hardluck for Rathwell at Paris 2024

Regan Rathwell, an Ottawa native who made an appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympics two years after battling injuries, was ecstatic but felt short in front of the world’s top athletes. Despite going 2:12.21, she finished 22nd in the 200 back, crashing  her dream of advancing in her debut performance.

Liendo looking strong in comeback

The 21-year-old Josh Liendo who despite his best went back home with no medal in his debut at the Tokyo Olympics but he heads into Paris sitting fifth in the world in the 50-meter freestyle.

With the Canadian expected medalist Liendo advancing to the semifinals in the 50 m freestyle, fans have reason for hope of another medal in men’s swimming discipline after almost a decade.

Liendo told  CBC Sports:

“Try to minimize those mistakes and give it my best shot.”

The 21 year old was also part of the 4×100 freestyle relay Canadian which came sixth.

Knox advances in 200m semifinals at Paris 2024

The reigning world champion Finlay Knox placed 13th in the heats to advance to the semifinals of the men’s 200-meter individual medley. The gold medalist from the World Aquatics Championships 2024 seems determined to make a mark at the Paris 2024 Olympics but needs to improve his play going into finals.
