Following a remarkable 19-14 victory over host France in Monday’s quarterfinal round, Team Canada kept their medal hopes strong in the Rugby Sevens at the Paris 2024 Olympics. With a 26-17 victory over China in the previous round, the Canadians kept a perfect record in Paris 2024.

The victory is perfect revenge and a massive turnaround for the Canadians, having lost 31-0 to the same opponents three years ago in Tokyo 2020. It was a bittersweet revenge, eliminating the host and bringing the Canadians closer to the Paris 2024 medal.

Canada thwarted an early burst of pressure from the hosts, and against the run of play, they scored the game’s first try with a fantastic solo run by Piper Logan at 3:15 minutes into the first half. It was a huge accomplishment for a 23-year-old making her maiden Olympic appearance in Paris 2024.

France gave a fitting response before the first half’s final play by scoring their first fry. They injected another right after halftime to bring the game close. However, Canada responded with Piper Logan, who recorded her second try. Both teams successfully converted all four tries, resulting in a 14–14 tie in the game’s final minutes.

With 53 seconds left in the game, Canada got a try, which Chloe Daniels scored to take the lead. However, it wasn’t over, as Daniels and her teammates had to endure a late scare as France attempted a comeback. With resolute defense, Canada successfully saw through the late French attack and silenced the 69,000 spectators at the Stade de France.

Canada will now face a dominant Australian side coming into the semifinals after their thumping 40-7 win over Ireland. The other semifinal will see New Zealand take on the United States.
