McIntosh’s Astonishing Silver Ignites Canadian Pride at Paris 2024

Following the Spy Drone scandal embarrassment, Canada finally has reason to be proud of at Paris 2024 Olympics. Summer McIntosh has won Silver in the women’s 400-meter freestyle at Paris La Défense Arena.

With a final time of 3:58.37, the Toronto teenager improved from her fourth-place performance at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. This is why Mcintosh was touted as a player to watch out in Paris 2024. Since making her Olympic debut three years ago, she has been making flawless comebacks despite her young age.

The 17-year-old led second the entire way behind Australia’s Ariarne Titmus, leading by 50 meters. The two-time gold medallist Titmus was class ahead of other swimmers but got into a tough fight in the start against the 17-year-old before making the race one-way traffic. Third place went to American Katie Ledecky, who faltered towards the finish line and finished more than a body length behind McIntosh.

The Canadian sensation had a sense of fulfillment after her first Paris 2024 medal race and said, “I’m pretty happy with the result.”, “I mean, the Olympics is always pretty nerve-wracking. There’s a lot of anticipation going into each race, so kind of learning how to deal with that and feed off the crowd.”

This Paris 2024 race was billed to reenact the legendary 2004 men’s 200 freestyle “Race of the Century” featuring Ian Thorpe, Pieter van den Hoogenband, and Michael Phelps. Despite being under a big spotlight and expectations, the teenage sensation has looked like a cool and calm customer and looks hungry for gold in upcoming events. She has now added an 11th medal to her collection, and there are surely dozens of those to add in the cabinet.

Moving forward, McIntosh is tipped to continue her good run and go all the way in her 200m freestyle event and in the most anticipated relay lined up.
