Canada has rapidly transformed from a modest participant in international sporting events to a formidable competitor and a sought-after host. 2024, in particular, has been a remarkable year for the nation. From bagging spectacular medals at the sport’s highest event to having the prestige of hosting events like NBA finals and Golf’s Presidents Cup. Canada will now host its maiden Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series at Montreal.
Olivier Morneau-Ricard, the head judge had a moment of wonder after watching the old port site and told City News:
“Watching it in person is a whole different beast. The ambience, the noise the athletes make when they hit the water, gives goosebumps.”
Divers are set to plunge into the St. Lawrence River at the Grand Quai from this Friday to Sunday.
Almost eight cities worldwide feature RedBull Cliff Diving divers performing incredible acrobatics at heights exceeding 20 meters.
Ricard added:
“The first stop was in Athens, Greece, a spectacular location.” “Today here in Montreal, we have the sixth stop. We’re going to finish with Australia, the eighth stop.”
As this competition rises to crazy heights, it keeps the athletes on their toes to perform their best every time. A jam-packed backstage with 12 men and 12 women diving with at best as a Red Bull Cliff Diving world champion is marked accumulated from every circuit. Men launch from a 27-meter platform, while women do from a 21 meters height.
A classic moment would be to witness a combination of speed, accuracy, and synchronization in a blink of an eye, which is a first time in Canada.
“We look at the beauty, the aesthetics of the dive.” “We want to see an effortless dive with a spectacular entry.”
Stephane Lapointe, the national team coach for high diving praising the city about the diving world said:
“Getting everybody here to see our amazing facilities and everything we’re trying to produce over the years is amazing.” “We’re waiting for you at the Grand Quai, then the Port of Montreal, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.”
Canada’s Carslon looks forward to play on home soil
