Ricky Ponting has announced his availability to coach in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the 2025 season. The Australian legend, who recently ended his tenure with the Delhi Capitals following a disappointing IPL 2024 campaign, expressed his eagerness to return to the coaching arena.

Ponting, who began his IPL coaching journey with the Mumbai Indians and joined the Delhi Capitals in 2018, has not yet led a team to victory. Reflecting on his seven-season stint with Delhi Capitals, Ponting acknowledged the lack of a championship win as a major factor in his exit. Despite the setbacks, Ponting remains passionate about the league and is keen to take on a coaching role again.

He admitted that while he was disappointed not to secure a title, he valued the experience and connections he had with the team. “I would love to coach again in the IPL,” Ponting said. “Every year I’ve been involved has been a rewarding experience, both as a player in the early days and as a head coach with Mumbai before moving to Delhi.

Ponting elaborated on his departure from Delhi Capitals, stating, “The goal was to bring a trophy to the team, which unfortunately didn’t happen. Nonetheless, I’m grateful for the time I spent there, having worked with some fantastic individuals and players. I’m hopeful that new opportunities will arise in the coming months, and I’m excited about the prospect of returning to IPL coaching next season.”

In addition to his IPL aspirations, Ponting was recently speculated to be a candidate for England’s white-ball coaching position. However, he has decided against pursuing international coaching roles at this time. “I’m not considering international coaching positions right now,” Ponting clarified. “The commitment required for such roles is significant, and my focus is currently on other opportunities that are more aligned with my personal and professional circumstances.

Ponting’s decision highlights his dedication to coaching within domestic leagues, where he feels his expertise can be best utilized. As he looks forward to the next IPL season, fans and teams will be watching closely to see where his coaching journey leads him next.
