One of the finest exploits of the new ball from the New Zealand shores, Trent Boult has confirmed that this would be his last T20 World Cup campaign. After a thumping nine-wicket victory against Uganda, the left-arm quick revealed that he would call time from representing this format in the ICC events.
“Speaking on behalf of myself, this will be my last T20 World Cup, so yeah that’s all I have to say,” Boult said after NZ beat Uganda in Trinidad on Friday.

Boult has bagged 81 wickets in 60 T20Is for the Black Caps, including seven wickets in three matches during the t20 World Cup 2024 so far. His bowling economy reads 6.43 in the ensuing tournament, but the New Zealand team collectively failed to get past the group stages after failing to win against Afghanistan and West Indies.
“I think in T20 cricket, anything can happen. We’re devastated not to qualify. We’ve been outplayed earlier in the tournament, and we haven’t qualified for good reason, so it’s unfortunate, but that’s how T20 cricket goes,” Boult said.
However, the fast bowler did not reveal his plans in the franchise cricket domain and other formats. He would likely be playing around the globe after being granted permission to leave the New Zealand central contract in 2022.
New Zealand’s Premature Exit From T20 World Cup
This is the first time since 2014 that the Black Caps will be exiting from the group stages in ICC’s white ball events. On enquiring about any possible transitional phase, Boult expressed that an outstanding talent has come off the dressing room in New Zealand Cricket, and they’re a nation filled with pride.
“I think there’s still some tremendous talent inside that dressing room and coming through the ranks in New Zealand cricket. So, we’re a proud nation, and I think it will continue to go that way.”
The Kiwis will be playing their last game of the tourney against PNG on June 17 at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad.
