Indian-born Sahil Chauhan became the fastest player to score a century in T20Is, achieving the three-digit figure in just 27 balls while playing for Estonia against Cyprus at Episkopi on Monday, June 17.
Cyprus set the target of 192 runs in 20 overs for Estonia in the second T20I of the 6-match bilateral series between these two teams. Sahil Chauhan came out to bat at number four with his team reeling at 9/2 in 1.2 overs. The right-handed batter went berserk from the outset, starting his innings with 6, 4, and another 6.
The number four batter smashed Mangala Gunasekara for four sixes and a four in the sixth over of the innings, taking just 14 balls to reach his fifty. He pummeled Chamal Sadun for four sixes in the eighth over and converted his fifty into a century with just 13 more balls.

The 32-year-old batter played a breathtaking knock, remaining unbeaten on 144 runs off just 41 balls and helping his side win by 6 wickets and 42 balls to spare. Chauhan clobbered 18 sixes and 6 fours in the record-breaking knock. It is pertinent to mention that Chauhan also broke the record for most sixes in a men’s T20I.
Earlier, the record for the fastest century in T20I belonged to Namibia’s Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, who achieved this feat off 33 balls against Nepal on February 27, 2024.
Chauhan’s 27-ball century is also the fastest in all T20s, breaking Chris Gayle’s 11-year-old record, who achieved this feat off 30 balls in the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
