The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) will stage a unique Test match between Australia and England in 2027, celebrating 150 years since the two teams first competed in a Test match in 1877.

This commemorative game honours 150 years of Test cricket and follows the tradition of the 1977 Centenary Test, which Australia won by 45 runs, mirroring their victory in the original Test a century before.

Cricket Australia (CA) has also unveiled the venues for international men’s cricket matches, including Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, for the upcoming seven seasons (2024-25 to 2030-31).

This decision is part of a strategic alliance between CA and state governments to enhance fan access, promote cricket nationwide, and strengthen community involvement. These partnerships aim to broaden the scope of cricket events across Australia, offering more opportunities for fans to enjoy live matches.

Additionally, the Adelaide Oval will begin hosting the “Christmas Test” each December from the 2025/26 season, featuring a combination of Day-Night and traditional Day Tests. Meanwhile, Perth Stadium will host the first Men’s Test of the summer through the 2026/27 season.

Cricket Australia said in a statement, “The awarding of hosting rights for select men’s international Tests, one-day internationals, T20Is, and other matches across the next seven summers (2024-25 to 2030-31) is the culmination of a series of strategic partnerships between CA and State and Territory Governments on behalf of Australian Cricket to provide greater certainty for fans and communities and to grow cricket events across the country,”

CEO of CA Nick Hockley further added, “We are confident this schedule ensures the best cricket will be played in the best venues at the right times across the country, including a fantastic mix of iconic Test matches, new blockbusters such as The West Test and Christmas Test and exciting Day-Night fixtures. Ensuring that cities across Australia get the best possible fixtures at the times they want is a challenging task – but we believe this plan delivers a fantastic schedule for cricket fans.
