Key Moments

Andrew Tye Draws the First Blood

The Australian pacer started the proceedings with the new ball for Wolves and provided an early breakthrough for his side. Tye removed his compatriot Chris Lynn for a duck on the second ball of the match, drawing first blood. He finished his spell with the figures of 3/41 and was the leading wicket-taker for his side in this contest.

Dilpreet Bajwa’s Ton

The Canadian batter spearheaded the innings for the Tigers and played an impactful knock for his side. Bajwa took his time to settle on the crease and displayed immense maturity on the tough batting surface. Where the other batters struggled to score, he smashed an unbeaten 100 runs off 55 balls, including ten fours and six sixes. It is pertinent to mention that the 23-year-old is the first batter to amass a century in Global T20 2024. His scintillating knock propelled the Tigers’ score to 166 runs in 20 overs. Additionally, he is the leading run-scorer in Global T20 2024.

Wolves’ Shaky Start

In Pursuit of 166 runs, Brampton Wolves didn’t get the start they wanted as they lost Aaron Johnson (10 off 12), David Warner (2 off 5), and Beau Webster (54 off 34) inside the powerplay and were struggling at 17/3.

George Munsey’s Valiant Knock

The Scotland player was the lone warrior for wolves as he stood tall till the 16th over but lacked support from other batters. Munsey smashed 54 runs off 34 balls, including two fours and five sixes. He was the only batter in Wolves camp to cross the 30-run mark and will look to continue his form throughout the Global T20 event.

Omarzai’s Havoc

The Afghan pacer operated with the new ball and troubled the opposition with his impressive bowling prowess. Omarzai wreaked havoc, grabbing four wickets in his four-over spell while conceding just 21 runs. His stupendous bowling helped his side skittle the Wolves for just 124 runs in 18.5 overs.

Implications and Future Prospects

Brampton Wolves never looked comfortable during the chase and lost wickets at regular intervals. The scorecard painted a bleak picture, with George Munsey being the only batter to score over 25 runs. Aaron Johnson, David Warner, Beau Webster, and Nick Hobson need to find their rhythm in the upcoming Global T20 matches. Although, Andrew Tye grabbed three wickets he needs to be more economical.

On the other hand, if it wasn’t for Dilpreet Bajwa, the Montreal Tigers would have skittled to a paltry total. Chris Lynn, Tim Seifert, Parveen Kumar, Sherfane Rutherford, and Ben Manenti failed to make an impact in this contest and need to chip in in upcoming Global T20 matches.

Conclusion

Montreal Tigers have won three matches on the trot and have yet to defeat. They are sitting strongly at the top of the points table and will aim to continue their winning streak in the Global T20 event.

Conversely, Brampton Wolves have lost two games on the trot and are fifth on the points table. They need to address their issues and return to winning ways.
