Rain caused the 6th match of the T20 World Cup 2024 to be abandoned, resulting in England and Scotland (90/0) sharing points, much to the dismay of the spectators.
The Scottish team made a courageous decision to bat first on the unpredictable Barbados pitch. During the powerplay, the Scottish batsmen were able to maintain their composure against the pace battery of Jofra Archer (0/12) and Mark Wood (0/11). But once rain threatened the match, Michael Jones (45/30) and George Munsey (41/31) accelerated their scoring and managed 90 runs in 10 overs.

The game was then curtailed to 10 overs with the Duckworth-Lewis method put into calculation. England were to chase 109 runs, but the rain played spoilsport as the match couldn’t resume any further.
This washout maintains England’s embarrassing record of no wins against European teams. The way Scotland went about their business, had the match taken place, England could’ve been in for another upset.
This washout won’t significantly impact this group since England and Australia are still favourites to advance. The fact that Scottish batters appeared comfortable against English bowlers could be an alarming signal for Jos Buttler. Their arch-rivals, Australia, will now face them in Barbados on June 8.
Scotland would be perplexed whether this washout is a favour or a curse. Their performance looked good, and they were capable of causing an upset. Namibia will now face Scotland on May 7 in Barbados again.
