Key Moments

Gurbaz’s Scintillating Knock

@wiplayers

After opting to bat first, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Kevin Sinclair spearheaded the innings for the Warriors, but Sinclair couldn’t settle for a long, departing for 11-ball 17 runs. However, the Afghani batter went berserk from the outset, providing a rollicking start to the Warriors. The wicket-keeper batter attacked the Patriots bowlers with authority and notched up his first fifty in CPL 2024. The right-hander smashed 69 runs off 37 balls, including four fours and six sixes, laying a solid foundation for a mammoth total.

Hetmyer’s Carnage

The West Indian batter has been inconsistent in recent times but delivered a breathtaking knock for the Warriors in this contest. The left-hander came out to bat at number four and pummeled the Patriots’ bowlers to all corners of the park. However, Hetmyer fell just nine runs short of his century, succumbing to Odean Smith on the final ball of the penultimate over. His scintillating knock, which included eleven sixes, helped his team post a mammoth total on the board.

Keemo’s Cameo

The 26-year-old all-rounder came out to bat at number six and provided a perfect finish to his side. The right-hander smashed the Patriots bowlers for fun and accumulated 38 runs off just 14 balls, propelling the Warriors to score over 260 runs in 20 overs.

Fletcher’s Fantastic Knock

The Patriots skipper spearheaded the innings and provided a solid start to his team. The ‘Spiceman’ batted in top gear from the word go, keeping the scoreboard ticking at a rapid pace. Despite losing Evin Lewis in the opening over of the chase, Fletcher helped his side post 94 runs during the mandatory powerplay. He was involved in partnerships of 69 and 65 runs with Kyle Mayers (28 off 17) and Sherfane Rutherford (34 off 12), respectively.

The wicketkeeper-batter amassed 81 runs off just 33 balls, including four fours and nine sixes, setting the tone for the chase. However, his valiant effort went in vain as the middle and lower-order batter faltered miserably and the Patriots were bundled out for 226 runs in 18 overs.

Implications and Future Prospects

The scorecard might suggest a one-sided contest, but it was a closely fought game, and the Patriots were in the driving seat till Fletcher was on the crease. However, their middle and lower-order batters failed to utilize the foundation laid by their skipper, getting bundled out with 2 overs to spare.

The St Kitts and Nevis-based franchise have lost three games on the trot after starting their campaign on a high note in their inaugural game of CPL 2024. They are penultimate in the points table with two points from four games and need to stage a comeback in the next match to halt their losing streak.

@wiplayers

On the other hand, the Guyana Amazon Warriors have won two games in a row in the CPL 2024. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (69 off 37), Shimron Hetmyer (91 off 39), and Keemo Paul (38 off 14) proved their mettle with the bat, while Imran Tahir (3/48) and Gudakesh Motie (3/34) weaved their spin magic to trouble the Patriots’ batters. The Guyana-based team will aim to continue winning ways and extend their streak to three matches in the next game.
