Key Moments

Levitt and O’Dowd’s Solid Start

After being invited to bat first, Michael Levitt and Max O’Dowd spearheaded the innings for the Dutch and provided a good start. The duo manipulated the field and kept the scoreboard moving at a decent pace. Their impressive batting display helped the hosts post over 50 runs in the 10-over powerplay, laying a solid foundation for the later batters. However, they failed to convert it into a three-digit partnership as Abhishek Paradkar trapped Levitt for 33 runs with the scoreboard reading 58/1 in 12.1 overs.

O’Dowd’s Gritty Knock

Following the wicket of Levitt, the Netherlands failed to add significant partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals. However, O’Dowd accustomed to the situation and focused on strike rotation to keep the scoreboard going. The right-hander notched up his fifty and delivered a vital 77 runs off 126 runs before falling prey to van Schalkwyk in the penultimate over of the innings. His gritty knock under pressure helped the Dutch post a competitive 207 runs on the board.

The right-arm pacer started the proceedings with the new ball for the Dutch and provided an early breakthrough for his side. He didn’t let Steven Taylor open his account on the first four balls of the innings and trapped him on the fifth ball, drawing the first blood for the hosts.

Kyle Klein and Van van Meekeren’s Impressive Bowling

For the Netherlands, Kyle Klein and Paul van Meekeren shone with the ball, consistently troubling the USA batters. Both bowlers hit the right areas, proving too hot to handle for the visitors. They extracted wickets at regular intervals, keeping the USA side on the back foot throughout the chase. The pair shared seven wickets between them, with Klein claiming four and van Meekeren taking three.

The USA batter struggled to negate the Dutch bowlers and lost wickets consistently. Skipper Monank Patel was the lone warrior in the side, who contributed 66 runs off 79 balls but lacked support from the other batters. Steven Taylor, Smit Patel, Aaron Jones, and Milind Kumar performed well in the patches in this tri-series but lacked consistency. The USA bowlers were promising in this contest, with each of the seven bowlers taking at least one wicket.

Conversely, Netherlands middle and lower middle-order batters failed to capitalize on the opportunity provided by the openers and missed out on a chance to post a big total. However, their bowlers were top-notch, restricting the USA to 179 runs in 45.5 overs.

Conclusion

The Netherlands remained undefeated in this tri-series, winning all four matches, and they moved to the top of the CWC League 2 points table with 12 points in eight games. On the other hand, the USA won two and lost two out of four games in the tri-series and are sixth on the points table with four points from as many games. Notably, this series marked the USA’s first assignment in the CWC League 2 2023-27 cycle, and they will aim to improve their performance in upcoming matches to climb the points table.

The ODI tri-series between the Netherlands, USA, and Canada, hosted by the Netherlands, has concluded. The Dutch side will now host a T20I tri-series featuring these three nations, starting on Friday, August 23.
